NSW businesses! Commercial battery incentives are on the way!

Great news is here for NSW businesses considering battery storage.

From 1st September 2026, eligible businesses will be able to access the new NSW Government incentive for commercial batteries over 20 kWh and up to 30 MWh. This new initiative represents savings of around 20–30% on a new battery installed on its own, increasing to around 30–40% when new or additional solar is installed with it!  For eligible battery systems under 100 kWh, this incentive may also be available alongside the Australian Government’s Cheaper Home Batteries Program, potentially improving the upfront savings even further.

So, if you have dabbled previously in commercial battery storage pricing but decided the upfront cost was simply too high, it may be time to run those numbers again.  The exact saving will be different for every project, of course. Things like the size of the battery, the way the system is designed and the requirements of the site. In most cases, though, the incentive will come off the upfront installation cost rather than being something you need to claim back later.

Why the bigger saving when solar is included?

Well, in simple terms, solar gives the battery something useful to store.  Basically instead of sending excess solar back to the grid during the day, the battery holds onto that energy so your business can use it later, maybe that’s during a busy part of the day, after the sun goes down or when grid electricity is costing you more.

Is this Incentive right for your business?

To receive the higher incentive, new or additional solar generally needs to be installed within 90 days before or after the battery.

Already have solar? You may still be eligible for the battery-only incentive. If you want to access the hisavingsaving, the First Choice Solar team will take a look at whether adding more solar makes sense for your site; whether the cost benefit stacks up!  Obviously, a battery is only worthwhile if it suits the way your business actually uses power. We’ll look at when your energy use is highest, how much solar you are generating and how much of that energy could realistically be stored and used later.

But for businesses with the right energy use, this change could make a commercial battery far more achievable and help reduce the amount of electricity being purchased from the grid over the years ahead. That’s a pretty attractive concept for bottom lines!

Next steps?

If commercial battery storage has been sitting in the “maybe one day” or simply “too expensive” basket, now is definitely the time to take another look. The incentive starts from 1 September, but we can start reviewing your energy use, existing solar and future needs now so you understand the numbers and whether it genuinely makes sense for your business.

Get in touch with the First Choice Solar team and let’s see what this new opportunity could look like for you.
